This serene location had long been a family destination. Surrounded by water on three sides, the original historic hunting cabin no longer fit the active family with adult children, extended family, and guests. The owners wanted to retain some of the rustic nature of the original log cabin, yet accommodate the modern life-style needs at their lakeside retreat. We began by organizing the interior and exterior circulation creating an inviting entry space. We expanded into the existing garage with additional sleeping and bathing spaces, enlarged the kitchen, and created new gathering spaces which included a sizable outdoor room. The master suite was enlarged to contain a working office and a more comfortable bathroom. An attractive new garage was built to house the "toys" and future work shop. Approaches to the cottage from both the lake and the land played an important role into the total renovation design.

A larger more open kitchen is the gathering place for the whole family. Forest green traditional shaker cabinets are topped by modern, leather finished gray quartz tops that harken to the concrete floors of the lower level.
